IASP is delighted to welcome a new Full member to its network: the Parque Cientifico Tecnológico de Yucatán, from Mexico.

The Parque Cientifico de Yucatán (PCTY) was established in 2008 under the values of perseverance, competition, harmony and integrity and is working to become a centre of knowledge. Their mission is to promote technological development and competitiveness of the Yucatán region through the transfer of knowledge and technology between academia, government and industry.

With social wellbeing as one of its cornerstones, the park aims to establish world-class infrastructure for quality R&D and to promote knowledge transfer to increase competitiveness in strategic sectors. Its vision is to become a global science and technology park, as well as a producer of high added value goods and services for society as a whole through highly-qualified human talent with a focus on water, energy, health and tropical diseases, sustainable technology, and telecommunications.

The park includes a museum related to the Chicxulub crater site where an asteroid struck the earth 65 million years ago. Today the crater forms a natural laboratory for the study of the formation of the planet’s surface as well as the evolution of life on earth. PCTY also boasts a public access botanical garden dedicated to the cultivation and management of plants unique to the Yucatán region, as well as a wildlife centre dedicated to sustainability, education and raising awareness of environmental protection.
