Lakeside Science and Technology Park (Austria) recently held the groundbreaking ceremony for its sixth construction phase, where they were joined by national and regional government officials as well as city authorities.

With the first part of the thirteenth building inaugurated in December 2019, creating new workspaces for research and development in the fields of human/robotic interaction and drone research, construction has now begun on the next development phase.

Hans Schoenegger, founder and general manager of Lakeside STP, emphasizes a current occupancy rate of almost 100% and international interest from a range of ICT companies.

“The park already consists of 1,400 people, 70 companies and three research institutes, as well as a startup centre and a laboratory for education in STEM fields and entrepreneurship. We develop constantly and gather more and more enterprise partners at our innovation centre. Therefore we invest another €17m for additional 4000 m² and a multi-storey garage with 500 parking spaces.”

Despite still being affected by restrictions in place due to COVID-19, Lakeside’s Educational Lab is flourishing as well. Their innovative Open Space Science took place on June 16th with great success: some of the youngsters attended in person while the majority connected online to carry out virtual experiments in what promises to be a format for the future for science park interaction with young people.
