Utilization of Steel Slag in Highway Construction for Minimizing Material Waste

Waste is a worldwide problem that should be managed well for better resource utilization. On the purpose of optimizing the limited sources for sustainable environment and contributing zero-waste circular economy in scope of waste evaluation, re-use fields of material wastes have been handled by TechnoBee which is one of the Research and Development company of Istanbul Technical University (ITU) ARI Technopark. In this paper, a new waste solution is presented to use of steel slags for infrastructures in Turkey. The main purpose of this study, evaluation of steel slag, which is produced as a byproduct in steel production facilities, in road construction, determination of its advantages and performance, and the creation of national legislation regarding the use of steel slag in road construction.
