New report outlines business models to boost innovation in EU agrifood sector

A new report from an EU-funded initiative has presented several potential green business models intended to revitalise and sustain the European agrifood sector.

Produced by the Agrifood4Future project, which features the involvement of IASP member Málaga Tech Park, the report offers detailed analyses of the agrifood sector challenges, policy trends, and technological and innovation priorities of six countries: Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.

The analysis of the state of art undertaken in each participating country has led to the proposal of several green business models designed to enhance the sustainability and innovation of Europe’s agrifood sector. These models include:

• Smart farming solutions
• Sustainable urban farming ventures
• Bio-innovation companies
• Resource-efficient agroecology firms
• Digital agrifood knowledge platforms
• Green supply chain consultancies
• Carbon farming initiatives
• Agri-educational ventures

The Agrifood4Future project aims to educate and train agrifood professionals, equipping them with the necessary skills to adopt and implement advanced practices. This educational initiative is considered critical to enhancing the sector's attractiveness as a career path and meeting broader environmental and sustainability goals.
