Raising the bar for African innovation: The Innovation Hub launches the African Digital Transformation Centre

Our member The Innovation Hub has taken a significant step forward in advancing digital transformation across the African continent, with the launch of the African Digital Transformation Centre (ADTC) at its premises in South Africa. 

The ADTC was established through a partnership between South Africa’s Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and The Innovation Hub, bringing together government and innovation ecosystem actors around a shared digital agenda. 

The Innovation Hub provides the ecosystem infrastructure, enterprise development programmes and cross-sector networks that make it a natural home for an initiative of this scale. The Centre will focus on accelerating digital skills development, supporting startup incubation, commercialising technology, facilitating public-private innovation partnerships, and advancing the adoption of artificial intelligence and other technologies across the continent. 

“The African Digital Transformation Centre strengthens our ecosystem by connecting policy, research excellence and commercialisation pathways in one collaborative environment. Together with our partners, we are creating a launchpad for African innovators to scale globally, accelerate AI and 4IR adoption, and translate digital ambition into measurable impact across the continent,” stated Dr Bangani Mpangalasane, CEO of The Innovation Hub. 

The launch further reinforces the broader ambitions of South Africa’s National Digital Economy Masterplan and its national AI policy framework, with the ADTC serving as a practical implementation platform to translate policy into measurable outcomes.
