Broadening Opportunities for Outstanding Scientific Talent
Objectives
Many Widening Countries, particularly in Eastern Europe, continue to lag behind more established EU Member States in terms of innovation capacity, as highlighted by the European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS). These countries are often classified as “Modest Innovators”, with performance levels falling below 50% of the EU average. Furthermore, the European Research Area (ERA) plan reveals that fewer than 20% of academics from Widening Countries are involved in major EU-funded projects.
The BOOST project aims to bridge this gap by strengthening the research and innovation capabilities of Widening Countries through closer collaboration between academic and non-academic sectors. It focuses on developing specialised training programmes and resources to build human capital, enhance researchers’ employability, and promote international mobility and industrial cooperation.
