The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Technopolis Moscow has been recognised in the Global Free Zones of the Year award by fDi Magazine, winning in the category "Honorable mention for the development of medical technologies and pharmaceuticals, COVID-19 related". They competed against a total of 70 special economic zones from around the world.

Resident companies at SEZ Technopolis Moscow produce a wide range of products for the healthcare sector, from vital drugs to disinfection equipment. Products include drugs for the treatment of disorders such as renal failure, anticoagulants, and immunosuppressants; medical devices for emergency medical care, artificial lung ventilation devices, as well as developing and manufacturing disinfection and washing installations for the treatment of medical supplies. Vaccines are made on site, and a plant for the production of cancer drugs has been launched.

The Moscow medtech cluster has flourished thanks to the companies who quickly responded to market needs during the pandemic. They invested over five billion rubles and provided more than 50 percent of the total investment in the SEZ in 2020, and in the first half of 2021, they accounted for more than 80 percent of investments.

“The international recognition of the Moscow Special Economic Zone, and its merits in the development of medical technologies to combat COVID-19, underlines the effectiveness of the work of the entire technological community of the Moscow SEZ. Technopolis residents have made a significant contribution to the fight against coronavirus both in Russia and abroad. In 2020 alone, the enterprises of the special economic zone supplied more than eight thousand units of goods to fight the pandemic in 45 regions of the country. The products are used in various institutions - hospitals, schools, federal departments and universities. Work in this area continues,” said Gennady Degtev, CEO of SEZ Technopolis Moscow.

A wide range of incentives for the tenants of special economic zones contributes to constant R&D activities, such as a preferential rate for land lease, the ability to buy out a leased plot for one percent of the cadastral value after the object is put into operation, a zero tax rate on land, transport and property.

The Special Economic Zone Technopolis Moscow includes five sites with a total area of more than 200 hectares. One of them is located in Pechatniki, the rest in Zelenograd (Alabushevo, Mikron, Angstrem and MIET). Today there are about 200 high-tech companies working there, 88 of whom have resident status.
