2023 ZGC Forum focuses on science and technology cooperation

The 2023 Zhongguancun Forum (ZGC Forum), hosted by China’s Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other partners, held its 13th edition in Beijing recently under the main theme of “Open cooperation for a shared future”.

With a focus on global cooperation in tech and science, the forum brought together representatives from foreign governments and leading tech organizations from around the world in the part of Beijing known as China's Silicon Valley, where it shone a spotlight on scientific and technological innovations in areas like artificial intelligence and quantum science, as well as international collaboration.

Since its first edition back in 2007, the ZGC Forum has become a market-oriented event with year round services that culminates in the annual Forum. It includes high-level discussions about global innovation, meetings, a technology fair, exhibition and competitions all focused on science and technology.

IASP President Herbert Chen spoke by video at a plenary session on May 26 and in person at the parallel "World Leading Incubator Forum" on May 28, which explored international best practices, while IASP CEO Ebba Lund was pleased to once again support the event with a video greeting at the opening session. 

Big name speakers included Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who appeared by video to called for greater cooperation among humanity to address global challenges, and to help more people lift themselves out of poverty and lead a better life in the future. The Mayor of Beijing Yin Yong also addressed the forum, emphasising Beijing’s commitment to building world-leading science and technology parks to put the city at the forefront of scientific and technological innovation.
