Driving the future of mobility: MobiNexus kicks off in Coventry

With the aim of accelerating the transition towards sustainable and smart mobility across Europe, the MobiNexus project was officially launched earlier this month with a kick-off meeting in Coventry (UK). Between 30 September and 1 October, IASP Knowledge & Project Manager Laura Monasterio joined project partners from across Europe to draft the roadmap for the years ahead. 

MobiNexus aims to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry in the transport and mobility sector, supporting the electrification, automation and digitalisation of mobility ecosystems. The project aligns closely with the European Green Deal and the Smart Mobility Strategy, both of which target a 90% reduction in carbon emissions from the sector by 2050.  

To bridge the gap between research and real-world innovation, the project will create innovation hubs, use AI-driven matchmaking for industry-academia partnerships, and host immersive workshops. The project will also offer cutting-edge training in green, digital, and entrepreneurial fields through its Entrepreneurship Academy. 

A key component of the initiative is the MobiNexus User-Centric Academy, which will provide user-centric design training programmes and equip participants with the skills to develop solutions that truly meet citizens’ needs through design thinking workshops and citizen engagement labs. 

Led by Coventry University (UK), the MobiNexus consortium brings together partners from across Europe, including IASP, Inovacioni Centar Mašinskog fakulteta (Serbia), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – UPC (Spain), STEP RI – Science and Technology Park of the University of Rijeka (Croatia), and MobyX Software Limited (Cyprus). The project will run until August 2027, under the Horizon Europe funding programme.
