Background information

The Research and Technological Innovation Park (PIIT) has worked to strengthen the development of the scientific and technological capabilities in Northern Mexico since 2008. A collaboration of the industrial, academic and governmental sectors, it has fosters a solid innovation ecosystem in the state of Nuevo León.

Currently, the PIIT has 36 public, academic and private sector R&D centres in an area of 110 hectares. It is also home to 2 high-tech incubators, one focused on biotechnology and another in Nanotechnology, both of which have their own incubation model and international recognition.

The PIIT is managed by the Institute of Innovation and Technology Transfer (I2T2), which is a decentralized body of the Nuevo Leon State Government. The I2T2 promotes scientific research, technological development, innovation and digital transformation in the industry, in Nuevo León.

In the coming years, the PIIT is expected to grow from 36 to 50 R&D centres, involving more than 6,000 scientists and technologists, becoming a landmark of sustainable urban development of more than 2,500 hectares.
