Background information

Techfactory Hannover is an innovation and startup hub in Hannover, Germany, created to strengthen collaboration between science, startups, and industry. It is operated by Technologiepark Region Hannover GmbH and is a central part of the Hanover Region’s innovation strategy.

The techfactory will operate at two locations close to Leibniz University Hannover: Garbsen and Hannover-Nordstadt. The Garbsen site is closely linked to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, while the Nordstadt site connects to the Faculties of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and the Natural Sciences. A formal cooperation agreement between the Hanover Region and Leibniz University was concluded in 2023.

A core goal of Techfactory Hannover is to enable university institutes and their staff, particularly from mechanical engineering, natural sciences, electrical engineering, and computer science, to work directly with companies and startups on innovative solutions, supporting applied research and technology transfer.

The Garbsen location is part of the planned ONE TechCampus Garbsen, a large technology park with six buildings totaling about 62,000 m². The first building, around 4,600 m², will house the techfactory and include an incubator for startups and student teams, coworking and office spaces, workshops, a learning arena, makerspaces, and a café. Construction is planned to start in spring 2026, with opening expected by the end of 2027.

Additional buildings and student housing are planned in later phases to host technology companies, research units, and service providers, creating a vibrant, university-linked innovation environment for the Hanover Region.
