Background information:

CEIRD (Centre for Engineering, Innovation, Research and Development) connects universities, industry, and government to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing. It was created by the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education to provide a central platform for driving research, development, and industrialisation in Zimbabwe.

CEIRD focuses on developing and applying technology and innovation, supporting the production of local tech-based products, encouraging import substitution and value addition, and creating jobs in technology sectors. It also forms partnerships to solve national problems related to industrial growth.

The centre includes several specialised institutes and high-tech labs that support both public and private projects in areas like health, environment, water and sanitation, IT, electronics, genomics, and mining.
