IASP has recently concluded a project commissioned by the Aga Khan Foundation (AGF) with an online presentation of a pre-feasibility study for an IT park in Tajikistan.

The culmination of 5 months of work, this report has a special focus on the city of Khorog in the country’s Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region. Working along with Euroconsultants and Crowe as project partners, IASP produced an extensive study that explores the creation of an IT park in Tajikistan. Using IASP’s unique position as a global knowledge leader, it advises on a host of matters such as key services to be offered, a potential timescale and budget for the park’s creation and the makeup of the management team.

Statistics on the industry were used to report on what a ‘typical’ STP offers, whilst experiences from across the IASP network advised AGF on how to design a successful ecosystem that benefits its entire local and regional community. IASP is ideally placed to produce this type of study thanks to the expertise in our network and our experience in producing pre-feasibility studies around the globe for many projects which then went on to become established STPs, and the same is hoped for this project in Tajikistan.

Yesterday’s meeting began with an introduction from the Aga Khan Foundation and Smart City Dushanbe, before the President of IASP’s Advisory Council Luis Sanz spoke on the current state of play in our industry. With a focus on the changes that we have been witness to in recent years, he highlighted the potential impact an STP can have on socioeconomic development, as well as discussing the new trend for specialist STPs such as IT parks. This was complemented by Euroconsultant’s Paris Kokorotsikos, who discussed the challenges and opportunities of establishing IT Parks in disadvantaged or developing areas.

IASP Knowledge & Project Manager Laura Monasterio and Euroconsultant's Piotr Michalowski then presented the key findings of the pre-feasibility study, looking at the opportunities, challenges and potential benefits of creating an IT park in Tajikistan. The role of governmental support was analysed in particular depth, as were examples of global best practice from across the IASP network.

IASP is delighted to have participated in this project, and looks forward to seeing the progress of this potential Tajik IT park in the future.
