IASP is pleased to announce that Juan Pablo Suárez Chacón (UTPL Science and Technology Park, Loja, Ecuador) has been elected as the new President of the IASP Latin American Division. He takes over from Rodrigo Mendes, who has moved on to a new role. Juan Pablo will now represent the division on the IASP Board.

As well as being director of the UTPL Science and Technology Park, Juan Pablo is also principal professor at the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja and coordinator of the Microbial Systems Ecology and Evolution research group. He has acted as principal researcher in several projects related to the interactions between plants and micro-organisms, molecular ecology and biodiversity, and has published more than 40 research papers in international journals so far. He has a degree in biology from the University of Azuay, Ecuador and a Ph.D. from the University of Tübingen, Germany.

“I am honoured to be the first President of the IASP Latin American division from Ecuador. UTPL is a relatively new park but we are facing the same challenges as many of our colleagues across the region, and I look forward to sharing experiences and to strengthening links between members of the division,” he commented.

Please join us in welcoming Juan Pablo to the board, and in thanking Rodrigo for the great work done!
