Description:

Companies worldwide face a double-edged challenge: a shortage of skilled workers due to the ever-evolving digital landscape and a widening gap between the competences present among the employees and the need for digital skills. The lack of talent and skills is today a barrier for innovation, economic growth, and job creation.

To bridge this gap, we believe companies need to adopt a broader perspective on talent and skills.  Looking beyond traditional criteria like specific degrees, companies should preferably   focus on transferable skills, potential for growth, and a willingness to learn. Embracing diverse demographics, including international talent, is crucial.

However, attracting and retaining this talent pool requires addressing cultural differences, language challenges and administrative hurdles. Sweden's "Switch to Sweden" program serves as a successful example. This initiative tackles the challenge by matching international academic talent with Swedish companies.

The program goes beyond just matchmaking. It equips both talents and companies with the necessary tools for success. International talents receive support in areas like the Swedish culture and labour market, while companies gain access to a wider pool of qualified candidates and guidance on navigating the complexities of recruiting internationally.

While the "Switch to Sweden" program focuses on the Swedish context, its core principles offer valuable insights applicable to a global audience.
