Description:
The study explores integrating Science and Technology Parks (STPs) into vocational skills training in Eswatini, to foster a sustainable and innovative ecosystem. The study specifically examines the current state of vocational skills training in Eswatini, challenges in equipping learners with innovative vocational skills, the role and impact of STPs in other countries, and develop strategies and recommendations for integrating STPs into vocational skills training. Data was collected through structured interviews and literature review. The study population was vocational institutions and STP managers. The study revealed limitations in the current vocational skills training framework in keeping pace with emerging technologies and industry demands. Integration of STPs presents opportunities for practical training, access to advanced technologies, collaboration between academia and industry, and fostering an innovative ecosystem. Addressing challenges such as infrastructure, curriculum development, and policies is crucial. Recommendations include developing a flexible vocational education framework, fostering partnerships between vocational institutions and STPs, updating curriculum with emerging technologies, and formulating supportive policies and funding mechanisms. The recommendations are valuable for policymakers, vocational institutions and stakeholders in Eswatini’s vocational education and sustainable development.
