Background information

The UFRJ Technology Park is an innovative environment within UFRJ that allows interaction between the university – including students and technical and academic staff - and companies, transforming knowledge into jobs and income and offering innovative products and services to society. An initiative of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, it aims to bring the UFRJ's academic community closer to technologically based companies, creating opportunities for new, cutting-edge research projects.

Opened in 2003, the park is made up of research centres of innovative companies, UFRJ laboratories, a business incubator and spaces for the development of entrepreneurship and integration.

Located in 350 thousand square meters within University campus in Rio de Janeiro, the park is a UFRJ project that currently houses 71 institutions. Today, research centres are set up with 15 large national and multinational companies, 10 small and medium-sized companies, 10 UFRJ laboratories and 36 startups. The 16 large companies include Schlumberger, Halliburton, Siemens, TechnipFMC, Tenaris, DELL EMC, GE, Senai Cetiqt, Farmanguinhos, Petrobras, Superpesa, Ambev and L'Oréal.

In the last year, two new innovation centres in the park were announced: the National Reference Center for Pharmacology, the Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology and the Institute for Innovation in Biosynthetic Sciences, SENAI CETIQT.

The park also offers the UFRJ Business Incubator, which currently houses 29 startups in an environment specially designed to stimulate the creation of new companies based on the technological knowledge generated in UFRJ research groups. In its more than 20 years of activity, the incubator has already supported the generation of over 100 companies, responsible for generating more than 1,380 highly skilled jobs.
