A Spanish delegation organised by Malaga TechPark and APTE (the Association of Science and Technology Parks of Spain) along with several Spanish science and technology parks including Fundació Tecnocampus Mataró-Maresme, UC3M Science Park, UPC Science Park, Basque Country Technology Park, and Espaitec, recently embarked on an inspiring study visit to Sweden, exploring Linköping Science Park — a leading innovation hub in the Östergötland region. IASP CEO Ebba Lund accompanied the delegation, bridging these member innovation ecosystems together.
The delegation, led by Malaga TechPark CEO and President of APTE Felipe Romera Lubias, was welcomed to Linköping Science Park by IASP President and Linköping CEO Lena Miranda and Linköping COO Fredrik Larsson, where they gained valuable insights into the park's operations and its close integration with Linköping University, showcasing a thriving innovation ecosystem built on strong collaborative foundations.
During their time in Linköping, delegates engaged with standout organisations including aerospace and defence giant Saab, automotive technology specialist ACTIA Nordic AB, and road surface intelligence company NIRA Dynamics AB. These interactions highlighted the city's impressive innovation landscape and the innovative spirit that drives regional success.
Key themes throughout the visit centred on digital transformation, cybersecurity, semiconductors, advanced materials, and sustainability initiatives. These focus areas sparked rich dialogue amongst participants and provided substantial food for thought regarding future innovation strategies.
The study visit exemplified the power of international knowledge sharing, with Linköping Science Park demonstrating a wealth of innovation programmes and forward-thinking approaches. The experience served as powerful inspiration for the Spanish delegates as they prepare to implement new ideas and strengthen their own innovation ecosystems.
During the trip, Ebba took the opportunity to visit nearby fellow IASP member, Norrköping Science Park, which works in close collaboration with Linköping University. This second destination further enriched her experience, with tours of local innovation hotspots including the renowned Visualisation Centre and the cutting-edge Printed Electronics Arena.
Such cross-border exchanges continue to prove invaluable for the global science park community, driving innovation excellence across international boundaries. We look forward to more occasions like this to connect with members across innovation spaces, where opportunities for gathering best practices abound.
