The Parque Tecnológico de Andalucía (PTA) [Andalucia Technology Park], located in Málaga, is a high-quality location in which to set up SMEs and large businesses that are innovative, respectful of the environment and geared towards manufacturing, advanced services and R+D.
Launched in 1992, the park offers natural surroundings to large multinationals, university institutions, SMEs and innovative startups which now number almost 650 and employ close to 20,000 people. Main sectors are ICT, which represents 60% of jobs, as well as engineering, consultancy & advisory services, industry, medicine & health, and energy & environment.
The PTA runs two pre-incubators to help entrepreneurs with innovative ideas set up companies. For existing companies, the park boasts several incubators to help them through the first years of life: the Bic Euronova, which encourages new innovative activities in existing SMEs; Promalaga, run by the city council, provides business management services, accommodation and incubation to entrepreneurs, and two run by the PTA itself. All entrepreneurs at the PTA can obtain free legal, business, accounting and tax advice for a year. These centres offer a training area, a business area, and an incubation area, with laboratories and warehouses ready for research and business activities.
Of all the incubation and pre-incubation activities which are carried out at the PTA, the creation of the PTA‐UMA Building on the Teatinos campus of the University of Málaga stands out. As an on-campus expansion of the PTA, managed by the Park, it houses companies and entrepreneurs coming from the university and national and international research groups. As well as being home to IASP Headquarters, the PTA has an international focus, organising reverse and direct trade missions, international B2B meetings and soft-landing services to help foreign companies expand to Spain.
