Background information

Innovation Place Research Park is a research park based on two sites in Saskatoon and Regina that facilitate growth through the provision of a supportive environment for startup and early stage tech companies. One of North America's most successful university-related technology parks, Innovation Place is home to approximately 150 resident companies employing almost 4,000 people.

The Saskatoon campus began operations in 1980 and is located adjacent to the University of Saskatchewan. It builds on the University's strengths in agriculture, information technology, and environmental and life sciences, as well as the strengths of nearby federal and provincial agencies. Located next to the University of Regina, the Regina campus opened in 2000 and hosts leading petroleum, environmental sciences and information technology organizations.

Both sites recognise the value of clustering to enhance productivity and success: in Saskatoon the largest clusters include agriculture, life sciences (including biotech), mining and other engineering technology, and ICT, while in Regina the largest clusters include energy, environment and information and communications technology.

With specialized labs and research greenhouses, growth chambers, a co working space and Saskatchewan's first technology incubator, the park fosters a dynamic social atmosphere through its diverse mix of residents, high quality facilities and a community that encourages innovation, collaboration and growth.

Technical services include contract research and engineering, analytical laboratories, and contract processing. Sustainable buildings provide specialized capabilities needed for sophisticated science and technology activities, while mechanical systems provide the air, water and steam in qualities and quantities that exceed what is normally available commercially.
