King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) Beacon Development, in collaboration with the Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA), is leading the Aquaculture Development Program (ADP) off the coast of Saudi Arabia.

The initiative aims to contribute to Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 by promoting aquaculture as a sustainable source of fresh local food. The program, overseen by KAUST Beacon Development, involves various interdisciplinary approaches, including mapping the Red Sea environment, identifying suitable farm sites, and implementing sustainable aquaculture practices.

The goal is to produce 280,000 metric tons of seafood annually by 2030, fostering economic growth and reducing dependence on imported fish. KAUST is also actively involved in training local population and building capacity to support the growth of the aquaculture sector. The program aligns with national objectives to enhance food security, marine biodiversity, and community livelihoods.
