2023 is just around the corner and with it a new year of international events from IASP!

The first IASP event of 2023 will bring together two of our regional divisions in Monterrey, Mexico: the North American and Latin American divisions.

From April 19-21, hosted and organised by the Parque de Investigación e Innovación Tecnológica (PIIT) Monterrey, IASP members and contacts from across the Americas will get together for a workshop exploring "Getting to the next level: STPs & AOIs as economic drivers in their communities."

Discussions will include the strategies that different ecosystems deploy to boost their communities and ecosystems. Speakers will share their experiences on important topics such as collaboration beyond borders, multi-stakeholder engagement, energising places and strategies for growth including soft-landing, retaining local talent, and helping startups turn into scaleups. Local representatives and experts from across the region will be among the speakers, ann opending networking dinner on April 19th, participants will have the opportunity to visit PIIT Monterrey for a technical tour. Operated by the Nuevo León Institute for Innovation and Technology Transfer, PIIT is located just 20 minutes from the centre of the city of Monterrey, its location allows easy access to the two main commercial land routes to the United States as well as the rest of the world via the Mariano Escobedo International Airport, just 5 minutes away. Delegates will also be able to visit the Aeronautic Engineering Research and innovation Centre, the Nanotech and Biotech incubator, and the FEMSA Biotechnology Centre.

Monterrey itself is considered the centre of industrial growth in Mexico, and the city with highest GDP per capital in the country. A safe international hub of knowledge and advanced manufacturing, the city is pursuing a strategy of economic development based on open innovation and human values, as well as offering lively culture, museums, world-renowned gastronomy and outdoor adventures in the nearby mountains.

José Alfredo Pérez Bernal, Director General of PIIT, commented: "Monterrey is the industrial capital and host of important global companies, and it has undertaken the challenge of transforming its industry and economy to enable to transition to a net-zero carbon world, leveraging technology and innovation as essential pillars of resilient economic growth.

With the strong support of the State Government, the innovation ecosystem is based on the triple helix, with close collaboration of society. One important member of this ecosystem is PIIT, the largest technological and scientific park in the country. With 110 hectares and 50 research centres (at its maximum capacity in 2030) it has positioned itself as a true reference of open innovation in the State, and a role model in Mexico. I want to invite you to get to know what we have achieved in little more than 15 years, and what we are striving for: to be one of the most competitive cities in the world, and the best place for entrepreneurs to launch a science and tech-based business."

Registrations will open soon, so keep an eye on your inbox and the event website https://piit.com.mx/IASP/conference.php for more details and to sign up.
