Medellin joins World Economic Forum’s global network of Innovation Ecosystems

Medellin has been recognised for its sustained commitment to science, technology and innovation, following its inclusion in the World Economic Forum’s Global Network of Innovation Ecosystems. This platform connects 18 leading cities across America, Europe and Asia, to foster collaboration, shared learning and the co-creation of innovative solutions to global challenges. 

With this milestone, Medellin joins a distinguished group of global innovation hubs including Berlin, Boston, London, New York, San Francisco and Tokyo, reinforcing its position as a key player in the international innovation landscape. 

A key factor in this achievement is the role of IASP member Ruta N, highlighted by the Forum as a cornerstone of the city’s innovation ecosystem. Acting as main orchestrator, Ruta N effectively connects industry, academia, government and society, while advancing in entrepreneurship, research and Medellin’s internationalisation.

The Forum also acknowledged Medellin’s successful transition towards a knowledge-based economy, underpinned by the integration of science, technology, and innovation policies. This long-term consistent approach has enabled the consolidation of a mature ecosystem with strong roots and growing international relevance as a model for inclusive growth.
