New publication explores regional innovation ecosystems

A new open-access publication developed from discussions at the MinnD Conference 2025 brings together international perspectives on how regional innovation ecosystems can evolve, strengthen connections between key actors and respond to changing economic and urban environments. 

IASP took part in the conference alongside representatives from science and technology parks, universities, research organisations and innovation policy organisations, contributing its international perspective on the role of organised innovation spaces in building connected and competitive ecosystems. 

These exchanges provided the foundations for World-Class Regional Innovation Ecosystems: A European Perspective from Málaga, Spain, published by UMA Editorial and edited by Julio Diéguez-Soto and Javier López-Muños. The book brings together contributions from12 international speakers who participated in the conference and develops many of the themes explored during the event. 

Among them is the evolving role of science and technology parks and innovation districts and how different models can strengthen relationships between research, business, talent, public institutions and cities. 

While the publication examines the future development of Málaga’s innovation ecosystem and Málaga TechPark, its scope extends beyond the region, placing these discussions within a broader European and international context.
