To mark their 10th anniversary, IASP member Innovation Area Development Partnership from the Netherlands have published the book 'Organised Innovation Spaces'. In this new publication, several IADP partners explore how science parks, innovation districts, industrial campuses, incubators and living labs can foster innovation and economic growth through collaboration, high-quality working environments, regional strengths and other enabling conditions.

The book brings together ten years of practical experience from the Innovation Area Development Partnership, combining strategic insights with examples from the Netherlands, Belgium and beyond.

Its central message is clear: successful areas of innovation are not conventional real estate developments, but living ecosystems. Their strength comes from more than just labs, offices, and attractive public spaces. It also comes from their networks, access to talent, shared facilities, professional management, and ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

'Organised Innovation Spaces' also highlights how the innovation landscape is evolving. Innovation districts increasingly connect research, business, education, culture and residential life, while science parks remain essential environments for deep-tech companies, specialised laboratories, cleanrooms and growing businesses. At the same time, sustainability, inclusivity, flexibility and demonstrable societal impact are becoming increasingly important.

For policymakers, developers, investors, knowledge institutions, designers and ecosystem managers, the book offers valuable insights into the conditions required to create resilient innovation ecosystems and support long-term regional development.
