IASP North America Division welcomes new President

On 27 May, the IASP North America Division met online, gathering innovation ecosystem leaders from across Canada, Mexico and the United States. During the meeting, Carl Viel, President and CEO of Québec International, officially handed over the Presidency of the IASP North America Division to José Alfredo Pérez Bernal, who thereby joins the IASP Board of Directors.

José Alfredo currently serves as Director General of the Institute of Innovation and Technology Transfer of Nuevo León (I2T2) and Director of the Research and Innovation Technology Park (PIIT). With more than 30 years of experience in public service and strategic policymaking, he leads initiatives promoting science, technology, innovation, entrepreneurship and international collaboration. 

His work focuses on positioning Nuevo León as a leading innovation hub by advancing emerging technologies, strengthening international partnerships, and supporting the growth and internationalisation of science parks, innovation districts and high-impact innovation ecosystems. 

‘My motivation is rooted in strengthening connections among innovation ecosystems in Mexico, the United States, and Canada, while leveraging Mexico’s strategic position to further connect North America with Latin America.’ commented José Alfredo ‘Through my experience leading innovation initiatives in Nuevo León and participating in REDNACECYT, I have witnessed the value of collaboration among academia, industry, government, and research centers in driving competitiveness and sustainable growth, while fostering meaningful innovation collisions that lead to new partnerships and collaborative opportunities’.
