IASP is pleased to announce a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting innovation ecosystems around the world.

A key focus of the collaboration will be ensuring that science parks, SMEs and researchers have access to practical, relevant IP information to support their journey from research to market, since navigating intellectual property can be a challenge for innovators at every stage. There is the potential to address some genuine, on-the-ground needs, from understanding which IP rights are relevant to their work and how to manage them, to simply knowing where to look for guidance when IP questions arise.

Through this partnership, IASP and EUIPO aim to improve access to intellectual property knowledge, resources and tools across Europe, helping our members and their communities benefit from IP awareness.

Some of the potential benefits from this collaboration will include training and upskilling opportunities, learning to integrate IP support into the services AOIs/IDs/STPs provide to their stakeholders, as well as supporting managers in advising their communities and resident companies on IP.

The MoU is the result of several meetings, including the recent Potsdam International Forum at Potsdam Science Park, where Alessandro Corrado (IP & Finance Partnerships Action Manager) and Claire Duranton (Head of service IP Knowledge and Innovation Academy) of EUIPO met with IASP President Salvatore Majorana, our European Division President Agnes von Matuschka, and IASP CEO Ebba Lund. IASP looks forward to a productive collaboration with EUIPO in the coming months and will keep the network informed as this partnership develops.
