Background information

Established in 1957 in Riyadh, King Saud University (KSU) is one of Saudi Arabia’s oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education. With a student population exceeding 60,000 and a campus covering more than 2,200 acres, KSU has cultivated a robust innovation ecosystem that effectively bridges academic research with the Kingdom’s national development priorities.

At the heart of this ecosystem lies the King Saud University Science and Technology Park—a strategic platform dedicated to advancing research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and industry collaboration. The park hosts several core entities that drive its objectives, including the Innovation Center, which addresses national priority areas such as energy, water, biotechnology, and information technology, and fosters partnerships with stakeholders across the public and private sectors.

Supporting these efforts is the Entrepreneurship Institute, established in 2008, which offers incubation services, training, and entrepreneurial support. To date, the Institute has supported more than 234 companies operating on campus. In parallel, the university’s Technology Transfer Office plays a critical role in managing intellectual property and facilitating the commercialisation of research outputs, ensuring that scientific discoveries are translated into practical, market-driven solutions.

Through its integrated infrastructure and alignment with national innovation strategies, the King Saud University Science and Technology Park exemplifies a leading model of academia-industry collaboration and sustainable innovation in the region.
