Malaga Techpark welcomes one of the eight european centres of EIT Water to foster innovation and face water challenges

Málaga positions itself as a European referent in innovation and sustainability, with IASP member Malaga Techpark being chosen as one of the eight centers of localisation for the EIT Water, the new European innovation and knowledge community powered by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). 

The initiative led, in the iberian peninsula by Innova IRV with the support of Malaga City Council, is part of the international consortium of Allwaters, lead by Aarhus University (Denmark) and made up by 50 partners from 24 countries. 

The project will have a budget of 356 million euros, of which 5 million will be allocated to its initial setup during the first year. It also aims to attract an additional 192 million euros in private investment, bringing the total projected budget to 548 million euros. 

The EIT Water is born with the objective of driving innovative solutions to face the main environmental , economical and social challenges linked to water management. Through its eight regional centers, located in Aarhus (Denmark), Leeds (UK), Berlin (Germany), Antwerp (Belgium), Vienna (Austria), Šibenik (Croatia), Málaga (Spain) and Varna (Bulgaria), the initiative seeks to foster collaboration between academia, private and public sector to build a more sustainable and resilient future. 

The establishment of the EIT Water center in Málaga strengthens the city’s position as one of the major technology and innovation hubs in southern Europe. Its mission, shared by all participating entities, is clear: to turn water-related challenges into opportunities for sustainable development, knowledge generation, and economic growth.
