Description:
Climate smart agriculture is an engineering approach that aims to enhance food security by increasing productivity, resilience and sustainability of agricultural value chains by preventing and mitigating the effects of climate change. This paper delves into the different aspects of climate smart agriculture which include incorporation of renewable energy systems such as solar, wind, and bioenergy integrated with information technology solutions such as remote sensing, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and data analysis in the agricultural sector. Benefits arising from climate smart agriculture such as reduced greenhouse gas emissions, enhanced energy efficient systems, sustainable farming solutions, optimized resource management, improved crop monitoring and adaptation to changes in climatic conditions will be demonstrated in this paper by existing projects and proposed future projects undergoing research and development by Dedan Kimathi University of Technology Center for Energy Studies (DeCES).
