Description:
Companies beginning their lives in STPs and AOIs need information and training concerning their options for pursuing patent protection for their inventions multinationally, in order to preserve options for downstream globalization of their businesses. Such training would need to include awareness-raising about WIPO’s Patent Cooperation Treaty (“the PCT”), how it operates, and how it can be advantageous for businesses. After this training, the companies will understand how the PCT can be a critically important strategic tool to support startups, SMEs and corporates in “going global.“ IASP and WIPO (which oversees and administers the PCT system) should work together to ensure that all startups, SMEs and corporates at or coming out of STPs/AOIs are offered training in the use of the PCT.
