UAlg TEC: The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem at the University of the Algarve

Regions compete globally for resources, including investment funds, highly qualified talent, businesses, and entrepreneurs. The Algarve region (Portugal), reliant on tourism, seeks economic diversification, with the University of the Algarve (UAlg) playing a key role through innovation and knowledge transfer (IKT). UAlg has established the UAlg TEC ecosystem, structured around infrastructures, programs, and initiatives, fostering entrepreneurship and regional growth. This ecosystem unites stakeholders under a shared strategy, enhancing local economic impact. Findings highlight the need for a collaborative, competitive innovation ecosystem to support internationalisation, talent retention, and business success. By leveraging IKT, UAlg strengthens the Algarve’s economic resilience and global positioning.
