Parque Tecnológico Regional Norte

The Parque Tecnológico Regional Norte (PTRN) is a science and technological park located in Rivera, near the border with Brazil. It was established in 2020 as a public but non-state institution to promote innovation, research and entrepreneurship as key drivers of regional development. The park is governed by a board that includes representatives form the Ministry of Industry, the Rivera Departmental Government, the Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC), the University of the Republic (UdelaR) and the private sector.

The PTRN’s mission is to catalyse binational territorial development from Rivera by systematically connecting academia, industry, and the public sector to transform knowledge into innovation, technology-based companies, and qualified employment. Its goal is to build an integrated environment for research, development, innovation, entrepreneurship, and technological services that leverages and scales existing capacities, strengthens technology transfer, enhances the productivity and sophistication of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and attracts investment and talent.

The park focuses on advanced logistics, forestry and tourism, agribusiness, information and communication technologies (ICT), industry, and the semiconductor value chain. PTRN will also operate as a MERCOSUR integration node, promoting cross-border cooperation and the internationalisation of start-ups and companies. To achieve this, it will develop shared infrastructure such as laboratories, incubation and acceleration programs, and university-industry collaboration mechanisms, ensuring world-class standards and a measurable impact on productivity, employment and sustainability.

PTRN currently occupies around 15 hectares adjacent to Rivera’s higher education campus, which hosts several universities and training centres.
