IASP member Lausitz Science Park (LSP) has taken a major step forward in its long-term development with the ceremonial handover of a 4.97 million euro grant notification fpresented by Dr. Klaus Freytag, the prime minister’s representative for Lusatia. He presented the funding on site at the future area of the LSP.
The milestone event gathered key regional stakeholders, including Entwicklungsgesellschaft Cottbus, the City of Cottbus, The Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU), the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, ILB representatives, and numerous partners from the Lausitz innovation ecosystem. The grant marks the launch of the first phase of development within the core 65-hectare site, to be completed by 2031.
Markus Schwenke, project manager for LSP at BTU, described the handover as “the beginning of a new chapter for LSP”, and reinforced the park’s role as a platform for innovation, growth, and long-term value creation in the region.
The Lausitz Science Park is envisioned as a flagship innovation district covering 420 hectares, designed to anchor the structural change of the Lausitz region and position it as a national and international innovation hub. In partnership with the City of Cottbus, BTU and WISTA Management GmbH, the LSP will focus on energy transition, decarbonisation, life sciences, global change, AI, and sensor technologies. Its strategic location near the city centre and the BTU campus gives it high potential for commercial and scientific synergies within the Berlin-Lausitz innovation corridor.
In addition to research and business facilities, plans also include a climate-friendly urban district to support liveability, sustainability, and regional attractiveness.
With strong institutional support and a clear long-term vision, LSP is set to become a transformative force for Brandenburg, driving innovation and regional growth.
