Basque Country launches new urban campus in Bilbao
Text:

IASP member “The Basque Country Technology Park” has officially launched construction of the first building at its new Bilbao Campus, located on Zorrotzaurre Island. The building, named after the renowned experimental psychology professor Helena Matute, reinforces de park’s commitment to honouring women in science and promoting cutting-edge research in fields like AI.

The founding stone was laid on July 21 by Lehendakari Imanol Pradales, alongside local and regional officials. Designed to host technologically advanced companies, it will be located on the site of the former Tarabusi Pavilion. This involves the reconstruction of that pavilion, with architecture that will respect the original aesthetic. Also a new building will be constructed following eco-design principles. Designed for advanced tech companies and projects, the 4000 m2 facility will feature sustainable architecture including geothermal systems and solar energy.

This milestone is part of a broader initiative to transform Zorrotzaure into an international Urban Technology Campus. Key tenants will be focused on AI, digitalisation, engineering and talent development.

Backed by strong institutional collaboration, the Bilbao Campus will become a dynamic hub for science, technology and entrepreneurship, contributing to the Basque Country’s region and further expanding the park’s successful multi campus model.
