Strengthening innovation connections in Panama: IASP visits Ciudad del Saber

As part of the recent trip to Panama, IASP CEO Ebba Lund had the opportunity to also visit Ciudad del Saber, an innovation campus with a unique history and compelling vision for the future. 

Established in 2000 on the former Clayton military base near the Panama Canal, Ciudad del Saber has been an IASP member since 1998. Today, the 120-hectare campus hosts more than 250 organisations, including technology companies, universities, research centres, 18 UN agencies, and NGOs, creating a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary innovation ecosystem. 

During the visit, Ebba Lund met with Ciudad del Saber Executive President Jorge Arosemena , Executive Vice President Irene Perurena, and wider team for an insightful tour of the campus, as well as IASP Latin American Division President Janelle Castrellón to discuss upcoming activities aimed at strengthening the regional network.

She also met with Ana Garça, UN Resident Coordinator in Panama, to exchange ideas on how innovation ecosystems can contribute to resilient, people-centred development and cross-sector collaboration in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
