Many science parks and areas of innovation have become role models for sustainability, demonstrating their commitment to today’s ethical, social and environmental challenges within an ongoing trend whereby innovation as a process is increasingly applied to social development and to solve social challenges.
Earlier this week, the IASP Sustainability subnetwork gathered for an online meeting to discuss 'Practical changes to support sustainability on research parks'. A thought provoking and inspiring session heard from four IASP members, sharing their various intiatives and policies.
Renan Lopes explained how tecnoPARQ UFV, Brazil are implementing a 'seal' approach on a number of key pillars allowing for a sustainbility certification level; Jackson Jiao on behalf of TusPark, China, shared what Tus Clean is doing with regards to the promotion of low carbon technology under the background of "carbon neutrality"; Yaruq Nadeem from National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) provided background as to their sustainability strategy and how this ties in with their various frameworks; and subnetwork coordinator Martin Wiles at Surrey Research Park informed the group on the practices in UK sustainability, highlighting the particiaption of universities on a national level.
We thank all for their contributions and look forward to developing more activities and initiatives within this IASP community.
Remember, the Sustainability subnetwork is open to all IASP members interested in the topic and in collaborating with others on relevant matters. Just contact iasp@iasp.ws for any more details.
