An innovation ecosystem is uniquely connected to its environment, and to really understand a place it is invaluable to visit some of its iconic locations to truly understand how local companies think. This is just one of the reasons IASP World Conferences always take place in a different city and country every year: last year it was sunny Seville, and this year it will be cosmopoliatan Luxembourg.

As well as providing an opportunity to connect and share experiences with colleagues from around the world, social events at IASP Luxembourg will give delegates the chance to visit some eyecatching local landmarks.

The conference welcome reception on September 12 will take place at the Luxembourg Philharmonie. This world-class concert hall was built in 2005 by architect Christian de Portzamparc, who wanted to plant a ring of trees surrounding the building. Lacking the space to carry out this vision, the architect came up with the idea of a vast peristyle composed of 827 columns around the Grand Auditorium which both allows the light to filter in, and encourages the public to forget their surroundings by not allowing a clear vision of it. It has been compared to the open mouth of a whale, with the columns as the bones of the whale, or cliffs punctuated by strips of light.

On September 13, our local host Technoport will welcome us to a special space-themed party in Belval, one of the largest and most ambitious current urban renewal projects in Europe. With food, drinks and activities focused on games and the future, the two rooms will be filled with retro arcade terminals, VR games, robots, cosplayers and more!

Delegates can also learn about the redevelopment of this former industrial wasteland into a modern city district, with a tour of Belval’s blast furnaces. These iconic structures have been maintained and now offer a glimpse of the steel industry and the production process of cast iron and steel, and a spectacular view of the Belval district and its surroundings.

It’s a fascinating contrast with Vianden Castle, which delegates can visit on September 15. One of the most beautiful castles in Europe, it was built between the 11th and 14th centuries on the foundations of a Roman fort and a Carolingian refuge, it is one of the largest and most beautiful feudal dwellings of the Romanesque and Gothic eras in Europe. Places are limited so register now to make sure you don't miss out! Early Bird discounts are available until June 30.
