Designing Mechanisms within STPs to Address Global Challenges in One Health: a Case Study of IKP International One Health Incubator

Emerging zoonoses, trans-boundary animal diseases, anti-microbial resistance, food safety and climate change are serious global One Health (OH) challenges and their addressal requires an interdisciplinary and an intersectoral OH approach.

Science & technology-based innovations offer tremendous potential to identify solutions to complex challenges as was observed during COVID19. To foster innovations, Science and Technology Parks (STPs) and Incubators play a vital role. Globally, STPs have impacted enormously on the development of the region and country. STPs offer a large collaborative ecosystem that fosters innovation and the development and commercialization of technologies.

This article postulates mechanisms within STPs and Incubators to act as catalysts for new innovations and their global deployment. IKP’s International One Health Incubator (IOHI) offers a platform conducive for multi-sectoral innovations and supports a cohort of start-ups selected through our OH Assessment metrics with a bouquet of services including IP, technology transfer, regulatory, policy support, and global market strategy under one IKP-umbrella. The aim is to study the impact created by the start-ups and build a robust OH outcomes evaluation model and demonstrate effectiveness of the OH approach in solving global grand challenges.
