Description:
The 21st century is marked by the urgency of public policies to tackle major social, environmental and economic problems. The formulation of the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is a representative landmark of the prominence of this agenda, which requires policymakers to develop initiatives that target such pressing issues. In this perspective, innovation habitats, more precisely, Science and Technological Parks (STPs), play a pivotal role. These environments that materialize models associated with innovation networks and knowledge flows can be instrumentalized under this new paradigm and act in favor of the consolidation of sustainable transitions. In this research we explore the case of the International Hub for Sustainable Development (HIDS), in Campinas. In this way, we demonstrate that the proliferation of mission-driven policies to meet these global challenges can be incorporated and anchored in mechanisms, as HIDS, for encouraging and reorienting innovation systems.
