UFV Junior Enterprises: Building a Community of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

This article explores the role of Junior Enterprises at the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, highlighting their history, practices, challenges, and impact. Through qualitative analysis, it examines their service portfolio, management, inter-institutional collaboration, and role in training entrepreneurs. UFV was the first in Brazil to create a junior enterprise organization in 1998, now integrated into the Technology Park of Viçosa (tecnoPARQ), enhancing access to the innovation ecosystem. This integration strengthens collaboration and entrepreneurship, benefiting both junior entrepreneurs and stakeholders. A SWOT analysis highlights strengths such as rapid development, qualified students, and access to experts, with networking and learning opportunities through tecnoPARQ. Junior Enterprises engage with cutting-edge innovation, reinforcing their role in local technological development. However, challenges include the need for greater collaboration with incubated companies, as most solutions remain conventional rather than technology-based. Additionally, information technology is underrepresented in UFV’s junior movement. To ensure long-term success, Junior Enterprises must enhance integration strategies and adapt to market demands.
