A team from IASP member Itaipu-Brazil Technological Park (PTI-BR) recently took Spot on its first adventure!

The park’s newest robot dog, the first one to operate in Brazil, had the opportunity of visiting restricted industrial operating spaces at the Petrobra’s company unit, walking through technical areas, and undergoing generic tests, such as analysing lighting equipment, cameras and autonomy, as well as the production of reports, record, and verification of standards previously chosen by the PTI and Petrobras team.

In the following 8 months, the teams hope to continue testing Spot to further define the applicability of the robot in the Leopoldo Américo Miguez de Mello Research, Development, and Innovation Centre (Cenpes Space). Once its applicability is defined, the team will carry out an analysis of the economic viability of the tasks performed by Spot, helping with technical performance in critical areas and preserving the life of the oil company’s workers.

In addition to the robot, the PTI team is made up of coordinator José Alberto Pereira and engineer Heber Miguel dos Santos, both from the Open Technologies Centre (TA), linked to the Technology Directorate (DT).

Known for its versatility in critical environments, Spot was created through a partnership between PTI and Brazilian Industrial Development Agency (ABDI), being part of an innovation and technological development of 5G technologies. The park hopes Spot can thrive in projects that involve development and maintenance of critical infrastructure, making the most of its advanced capabilities.
