Bromont Science Park has obtained a significant recognition from the Government of Quebec and has just been officially recognized as a microelectronics innovation zone (digital technology) via its Technum Quebec innovation zone.

Quebec Premier François Legault and other regional government representatives recently unveiled the first innovation zones. Bromont has been designated an innovation zone for digital technologies, while Sherbrooke has been allocated a quantum sciences zone.  The first innovation zones thus ensure that Quebec will have the highly technological skills to meet the challenges of modern society.

Based within Bromont Science Park, Technum Quebec aims to become the technological ambassador of a digital Quebec. Strengthened by a vigorous academic network and fast-growing companies, Technum Quebec relies on innovation, collaboration, knowledge, and the sustainable integration of intelligent and enabling technologies.

Bromont’s designation as digital technologies innovation zone is key to Quebec’s microelectronics industry. It highlights the strength of its internationally renowned companies, and reinforces the unique collaborative model introduced by C2MI, a microelectronics research centre created in 2012. It has accelerated the commercialization of many innovative technologies, and over the past eight years, $388 million has been invested in research and development. During this period, more than 500 industrial technological innovation projects were completed, from which nearly 300 patents resulted.

“Technum Quebec innovation zone is an example to follow. It is based on recognized expertise and a dynamic ecosystem that is already well established and at the forefront of the world stage. Its cutting-edge sector, digital technologies, has excellent growth prospects and promises interesting spin-offs that will benefit several industrial sectors in Quebec,” commented Pierre Fitzgibbon, Minister of Economy and Innovation and Minister Responsible for Regional Economic Development.

“Bromont is very proud to receive this designation. We could already count on renowned companies in digital technologies in our science park. Technum Quebec is not only a new impetus for our industrial sector, but also a great showcase for our city and its region,” said Bromont Mayor Louis Villeneuve.

“Bromont’s microelectronics expertise has been present in the area for nearly 50 years with renowned leaders such as IBM and Teledyne Dalsa. The establishing of C2MI has materialized a unique integrated chain of innovation based on collaboration between academia and industry. The collaborative environment allows local companies to multiply their success by exchanging practices and processes, by sharing equipment and unique know-how for the overall benefit of the industry. We find here a vigorous and agile innovation culture, supported by a critical mass of experts whose reputation and representativeness are an undeniable force of attraction to ensure the growth of the innovation zone and thus contribute significantly to the economic strength of Quebec,” added Normand Bourbonnais, CEO of Technum Quebec.

Technum Quebec will be a catalyst maximizing the interactions that can stimulate the spread of new digital technologies and their commercialization, leveraging existing infrastructures to deploy the full potential of digital knowledge and know-how in all economic sectors.
