Developing local talent is key to city and regional economic development, and an area where IASP members worldwide have long been active to ensure the availability of a qualified workforce for their companies.

At Tecnopuc and PUCRS Carreiras (Brazil), one of the ways they are doing this is to connect local students with the job market by inviting them to the park to get to know some of the innovative companies there. During March 2022, 600 university students from a range of disciplines had the opportunity to find out what exists behind the technological and creative ecosystem.

The visits introduced the day-to-day activities of partner companies, career opportunities, tips on how to develop their skills to work in the new economy, and several talks about innovation and entrepreneurship. It allowed them to explore the tech park, discover priority research areas within the University and also to learn more about the metaverse.

Students visited Tecnopuc and met companies 4all and Healthplus Innovation Center, Meta4Chain, Grupo RPH, Getnet, Junior Achievement RS and Globo, while the PUCRS Carreiras team talked to participants about market opportunities and other services and activities that it offers and that contribute to their life and career goals.

Alessandra Morelle, oncologist and doctor in clinical medicine at PUCRS and CEO of Tummi, a startup that integrates the Tecnopuc ecosystem and Health Plus Innovation, attended the meeting with the students. “It was an incredible opportunity to encourage young students to participate in the innovation ecosystem by bringing new ideas and contributing to the disruption of the most diverse areas in which we operate on a daily basis. These events allow connecting students and startups of the innovation ecosystem, they are fundamental to generate connections and enable the access of the academic environment to the job market from the beginning of the training of these young people”.
