IASP is proud to announce that Herbert Chen (TusPark, China) has been elected as the new International President of IASP at the IASP General Assembly, which took place today, September 30th.

After serving as Vice President, Mr Chen now takes over from outgoing President Paul Krutko (Ann Arbor Spark, USA) who comes to the end of his term.

Mr. Herbert Hongbo Chen joined the management company (Tus-Holdings) of Tsinghua University Science Park (TusPark, Beijing, China) in 2001. He played a vital role in the management team of TusPark, where he was not only in charge of the daily operation the park, but also contributed significantly to the establishment and operation of the TusPark’s comprehensive value-added service system. TusPark is now the best-known university science park in China, with more than 8000 international and local hi-tech startups living and working in TusPark Beijing and its over 300 branches all over China and around the world.

Herbert also served as the President of IASP’s Asia Pacific Division, and has been a regular contributor to our global events and knowledge sharing initiatives.

He is joined on the Executive Board by Lena Miranda (Linköping Science Park, Sweden) as Vice President and Deepanwita Chattopadhyay (IKP Knowledge Park, India) as Treasurer, taking over from Lamiae Benmakhlouf (Technopark Morocco, Morocco). CEO Ebba Lund completes the Executive Board. They lead the full IASP International Board, which is made up of 13 members from 13 different countries: China, Denmark, Ecuador, India, Iran, Italy, Kenya, Panama, Russia, Sweden, Thailand, the UK and the USA. Together they represent IASP’s almost 350 members and their 115,000+ companies in 74 countries.

Ebba Lund, said: “On behalf of all our members around the world, I am delighted to welcome Herbert as IASP’s new President, and I know we will all benefit hugely from his years of experience and insights into our global industry. I look forward to working closely with him, and to growing our presence in China where we already have 36 members. These are challenging times for us all, and Herbert’s expertise and truly international mindset will be a great asset to our worldwide association and our community of innovation ecosystems. I’d also like to thank our outgoing President Paul Krutko for everything he has done for IASP members during his mandate, and for sharing all his insights as an expert in economic development.”

Mr Chen commented: “It is my great honour to serve you as IASP President over the next 2 years, and along with new Vice President Lena Miranda and the rest of the board, we will work hard to make IASP grow and strengthen its influence and success.

IASP is already an organisation with a long history and a truly global representation: since our foundation we have had in total over 1000 members from every continent; our association enjoys a high reputation and makes a great contribution to the STP and AOI industry. Although the pandemic has brought us great challenges - we haven’t shaken hands or met face to face in the past 2 years - IASP has managed to organise two World Conferences and many online events, working to continually expand our influence on the world stage. I look forward to working with members all over the world, and to finally meeting again in person next year."

We also welcome two new Directors: Gavin Poole (Here East, UK) and Jorge Arosemena (City of Knowledge, Panama), who join the seven Regional Division Presidents on the International Board of directors. IASP warmly thanks our outgoing Treasurer Lamiae Benmakhlouf (Technopark Morocco, Morocco), and directors Faruk Inaltekin (Bilkent Cyberpark, Turkey), Mostafa Karimian Eghbal (Isfahan Science & Technology Town, Iran), and Patrick Valverde (Toulon Var Technologies, France), as well as Consulting Directors Josep Piqué (La Salle Technova Barcelona, Spain) and Jean-François Balducchi (Atlanpole, France).
