Malaga TechPark (Spain) celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, with a gala on March 14th attended by local and regional dignitaries and awards for some of the park’s successful resident companies.

Founded by the Andalusia regional government and the city of Malaga and opening its doors with just 8 companies and 130 staff, the park is now home to 653 companies employing over 20K professionals. The University of Malaga opened its Tech Transfer office in the park in 1994, paving the way for the close and ongoing collaboration we see today, and IASP was also one of the early arrivals, with our World Headquarters opening in Malaga TechPark in 1995.

Chaired by the president of the Andalusia regional government, Juanma Moreno, the gala celebration was also attended by the mayor of Malaga Francisco de la Torre and the park’s CEO Felipe Romera, who has led the park since its foundation, as well as representatives of Accenture, Corporación Altra, Aertec Solutions, EY Spain, Ericsson, Dekra, Opplus, Indra, Google, Oracle and Innova IRV. The 11 companies were all recipients of awards for their many and varied contributions to developing the Malaga innovation ecosystem, including the key roles they have played in R&D cooperation, job creation, digital vocational training and international talent attraction.

Two of these are startups born in the park: Corporación Altra was recognised as a “high-growth industrial startup at Málaga TechPark", and Aertec Solutions collected an award for job creation, in recognition of its work carried out in Málaga TechPark and its ecosystem. The company began as a startup in 1997, and is now an Airbus strategic supplier with 600+ highly qualified employees and projects in over 160 airports in more than 40 countries.

IASP CEO Ebba Lund was in attendance to congratulate Felipe Romera and all of the Malaga TechPark team in person, along with several of our Spanish members who travelled to Malaga to join the celebrations.

Please join IASP in congratulating Malaga TechPark on their 30th anniversary, and wishing them every success in the planned expansion that will double the number of employees and companies in the park in the next 20 years.
