Tartu and Gangwon technology parks sign MOU

Estonia’s Sparkup Tartu Science Park and South Korea’s Gangwon Technology Park have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to enhance cooperation in health technology, particularly in biotechnology.

The MOU was signed during a visit by Gangwon Technology Park's president, Hur Jang-hyun, and a delegation of South Korean entrepreneurs to Tartu. The visit included presentations by health and biotechnology firms such as Solis BioDyne, BioCC, and Tervisetehnoloogiate Arenduskeskus.

Andrus Kurvits, board member of Sparkup Tartu Science Park, said, "The cooperation agreement concluded today will help future startup or growth companies to enter and expand into a new market more efficiently. Together with the city of Tartu, we can be the main access for South Korean companies to the Estonian health technology sector".

The ceremony was also attended by representatives from the Korean Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, Gangwon Province’s Bio-Health Division, and CHA University’s Department of Bioengineering.

The agreement with Sparkup Tartu Science Park, an IASP full member, will enhance collaborative research and the shared use of digital healthcare technologies, including AI and genomics, with the goal of supporting joint R&D and advancing precision medicine.
