Description:

Extreme levels of poverty, economic inequalities, and high levels of unemployment are currently the preoccupation of governments, research institutions, scholars, international organizations, and entrepreneurs. These challenges have placed Kenya on an economic precipice point with severe economic implications being felt by the youth, who largely remain unemployed, lacking the technical skills to venture into entrepreneurship, and are forced into informal employment with zero prospects of rising above them.

Technological advancements have made it fundamental to have a skilled and agile workforce. The Jitume Program therefore seeks to equip youth with fundamental digital skills required in the current job marketplace and nurture talent while bridging the digital divide and addressing the challenges of access to digital infrastructure.

This paper therefore explores the evolving job marketplace, youth unemployment, limited access to digital infrastructure and skills, and how the Jitume Digital Enablement Program seeks to provide lasting impactful solutions to these challenges.
