Scientific & Industrial Research & Development Centre - SIRDC

Scientific and Industrial Research and Development Centre (SIRDC) is Zimbabwe’s national research and technology organization, established in 1993 and based in Harare. Operating under the Government of Zimbabwe, SIRDC promotes scientific research, innovation, technology development, and the commercialization of research to support industrial growth and national economic development.

The Centre conducts applied research and provides technical services across a wide range of sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, mining, energy, ICT, health, environmental management, transport, and water resources. Its activities include product development, technology transfer, testing and certification, consultancy, training, and support for SMEs and industry.

SIRDC operates advanced laboratories and research facilities specializing in biotechnology, engineering, materials science, electronics, renewable energy, food technologies, metrology, geospatial technologies, and production engineering. These capabilities enable the Centre to develop practical technologies and provide scientific services to both public and private sector organizations.

Working closely with universities, industry, government agencies, and international partners, SIRDC plays a key role in strengthening Zimbabwe’s innovation ecosystem. Through its focus on applied research, commercialization, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, and digital technologies, the Centre contributes to improving industrial competitiveness and supporting sustainable economic development.
