Racing to Net Zero with Fight Climate Change project

The route to a zero carbon future was the main theme of the Collective Innovation to Fight Climate Change project, which took place on June 15 at the London School of Economics (UK).

Close to 150 participants, including experts, consulting specialists, entrepreneurs, project managers, researchers, executive directors, CEOs, coaches, and scholars, gathered for the project’s final event to explore topics around 'Racing to Net Zero'.

IASP is a member of the project, alongside CEED Bulgaria, KISMC, WIF, IDEC, EPN Consulting, and Creative District. Financed by the European Union’s Erasmus + programme, Its goal is to fight climate change via collective innovation and efforts. Working with educators, entrepreneurs, SMEs, employees, and individuals, the project leverages adult education to help achieve the UN SDGs and combat climate change.

At 'Racing to Net Zero', expert speakers and panellists took part in a wide variety of discussions, bringing actors across sectors to cross-pollinate and support actions to address environmental goals. They agreed that creating a culture of innovation is key to making change, and the conference audience heard insights and experience from various perspectives on sustainability and the new technologies, plans and projects underway to help make our world a little greener. Attendees also heard from entrepreneurs creating positive impacts on the environment and society, and startups with sustainable solutions.

This successful final event of the FCC project showed that the concept of Collective Innovation to Fight Climate Change has an impact. Valuable project outputs include a carbon footprint calculator to determine the amount of CO2 individuals and businesses generate. Designed and developed by the FCC project consortium, it uses data produced through scientific research and statistical measurements, and users input data from different parts of the world. They can benchmark against others on the platform from other industries, and receive tailored content with tips, suggestions, and actions on what to do next to be part of the ‘Fight Climate Change’ community. 

Other achievements were publication of the Climate Change & Sustainable You Handbook to assist educators regarding climate change & SDGs; the Innovating for Climate Change & Sustainability Toolkit for entrepreneurs and SMEs on using innovation management; and the Culture of Change. Climate Change Manual, which guides entrepreneurs and SMEs to be the agents of change within their business in terms of climate change and contributing to reducing the negative impact on the environment.
